Hoping for A Green Fence

Spring and fall are my favorite seasons for propagating and transplanting backyard-grown trees to our front yard. When we first moved to the countryside, we received the sweetest surprise from our neighbor—a thoughtful gift of baby evergreen cuttings. These little trees, already full of healthy side shoots, came tucked in narrow planting tubes. It was such a joyful and memorable time planting them around our property, dreaming they would one day grow into a lush, natural privacy fence.

Daily Blueberry Harvest

The previous owner planted around six blueberry bushes, and every summer they produce a great harvest. We pick as many as we can during summer and fall, then freeze them to enjoy later. The berries that grow lower on the bushes are left for our chickens to snack on. Every morning, we mix the frozen blueberries with Greek yogurt and honey for a healthy and delicious breakfast treat. It’s one of our favorite simple joys!

Must Spring Planting List

Every spring, there are a few must-plant seeds in our garden—jalapeños, tomatoes, and perilla leaves. These are staple ingredients in our daily cooking, and we rely on them for meals throughout the growing seasons. Being able to harvest them fresh every day, right from our small garden beds in the front or backyard, brings us so much joy. It’s a simple but rewarding part of our life.
